Sandy, Snow, and Maine!

Well we have been pretty busy here in the last couple of weeks. First, Sandy came to visit us. We were really scared of what this "Frankenstorm" would turn out to be. Would we lose power? Would it snow? Would Ryan be able to go to work? For us, it turned out to be a lot of strong wind with a little sprinkling of rain.. and that was it. Thankfully, Sandy didn't even look our way. It did however affect the majority of New York, and Ryan did get to miss work for 2 days. A few big limbs were down in our neighborhood, and some places near us lost power. But for the most part, we were very blessed that we were not affected. It was all pretty exciting though.

What was really touching to both of us was how many people reached out to us on skype, facebook, email, text messages, calls, etc. to check on us. We really appreciated everyone's prayers and support, and it made us feel so loved. It was great to know and see how many people care for us and are praying for us on a day to day basis. We really appreciate it, and I don't know what we would do without all of you!

After Sandy came the big snow that we got that was just about a week later! It started in the early afternoon, and it didn't stop until the next morning! I would guesstimate that we got about 5-6 inches, give or take a few. It was hard to tell at first because it was melting as soon as it hit the ground. As the day progressed, the temperature dropped sooo more snow! Yay! Here are some pictures around NYC of the snow:

Here is a video that Ryan took walking home from the bus stop that he takes to get to work on the day that the snow came.

Sadly, the snow melted the next day.. but I can see how it would get old pretty fast. I think I would be nervous to drive in this everyday, and I am thankful that we decided against having a car up here.

Here are some pictures of us when we went out one night with some students and friends from the island:

Rob and Lauren. Lauren came to visit as soon as she got done with her Step, and we went out to celebrate! It was nice to have another girlfriend!

So in between Sandy and the big snow, Ryan and I decided to go up to Maine to visit my best friend, Chelsea, who recently moved up there. I wanted to surprise Chelsea, and it was the perfect timing since Ryan had a long weekend off in between rotations. Thanks to Chelsea's great boyfriend, John, we were able to drive up there and surprise her without her suspecting a thing! We rented a car and make the 300 mile journey after Ryan and I got off of work on a Thursday. It wasn't too bad of a drive, and honestly- we enjoyed being in a car again! It was a little nerve wracking though when we crossed into Maine, and we saw a sign for Moose Crossing. Yikes! It was very nice on the journey back home because we got to see all of the pretty trees with the leaves changing colors. Here are some pictures of us in Maine:

Another time

Chelsea and John took us to this awesome place right on the water that had the most amazing lobster! Not to mention that we got to look out of the window and see this amazing sight!

We also watched the Ole Miss vs. Georgia game.. but we won't go into that one

Oh yeah. So delicious!

We got a lobster roll too:

They were both great, but you really can't beat lobster fresh from the ocean. It makes me hungry all over again just thinking about it! We had an amazing time there, and the weekend just wasn't long enough.

So, now we are back into the swing of things. Ryan began his ob/gyn rotation last week, and I am still rocking along with therapy. I am up to 29 kids now, so somehow I keep getting more. I think I have a hard time of saying no! Ryan works the night shift for the next two weeks, so he just might be getting to birth some babies! I can't wait to hear all of those crazy stories!

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just next week. I feel like we just moved to NYC! Neither of us are going to go home for Turkey Day, so we will have to be thankful up here. If anyone wants to chat with us on skype, we would be really glad to do it! We miss all of our friends and family, and even though we won't be there in person to tell you- we are very thankful for you! Also- if anyone wants to come visit, you can always stay with your friends in the Bronx! :)

That's about all for now folks! Have a great week!
